An Observational Study of Tropical Cyclone Intensity Change

The intensity of a tropical cyclone (TC) is an important forecast parameter for estimating the possible impact brought by the TC. However, no satisfactory method (for both statistical techniques and dynamical models) exists to predict TC intensity. This project aims at enhancing our understanding of TC intensity change from observational data, together with results from dynamical modelling. The outcome from the project is expected to form a solid foundation for formulating better intensity forecasting techniques for tropical cyclones.
